Moroccan Roll by Richard Gehr
The first disck of Club d’Elf’s Electric Morocco Land/So Below (Face Pelt) combines North African trance rhythms with state-of-the-art science-fiction keyboards (aloha John Medeski), head glitch turntablism (Mister Rourke), and Elf leader Mike Rivard’s deep three stringed sintir and cavernous bass. Check out its streetwise chaabi versions of Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love” and Morphine’s “Rope on Fire”. CD two is more akin to Club d’Elf’s 21st century take on electric Miles Davis as does by late psychonaut Terence McKenna.
